one question in my mined what is the difference between page view and page hit on any web site. please give me your valuable suggestion.

Hi, When people find your website and take a look, this is a page view. There are also many online scripts, applications, robots, crawlers that hit websites tens of, hundreds of, thousands of times a day.

A "hit" is one element of any page served up on your site. Say your page has 2 images on it. When that page gets loaded up in your browser, your pageviews would be counted as "1" and your hits would be counted as "3" - 2 images + page itself.

Like Ranksurge said, anything that needs to be loaded from your site will be a hit. You will find that a site with 1000 visitors in a month might very well have a
100 000 hits or even a million hits, simply because every element that needs to load = hit. In most instances people ignore hits simply because tey offer no real value as far as measurable analytics go.
You are better off looking at Visitors and Unique visitors, but also page views for specific pages. This should help you identify funnel points and also help you identify dropoff areas. Any decent analytics pacakge should be able to give you funnels anyway.

hits is very dotcom era. It was a term used to inflate the apparent success of websites. In many respects its almost meaningless.
Page views have a use. But generally only in the context of the number of visitors.

There are three types of Web site statistics, a hit, a page view or pages and a visitor or visits. Each of these measures something different:
Hits – A single file request in the access log of a Web server. For example, a request for an HTML page with three graphic images will result in four hits in the log: one for the HTML text file and one for each of the graphic image files. While a hit is a meaningful measure of how much traffic a server handles, it can be a misleading indicator of how many pages are being viewed. Instead, advertising agencies and their clients look at the number of pages delivered and ad impressions or views.
Page Views / Pages – This measures how many times someone has viewed an entire page including all text, images, etc.
Visitors / Visits – This is defined as a series of hits from any particular IP address. If any two hits are separated by 30 minutes or more, two visitors are counted. "Visitors" represent an extrapolated number

or In simple words we can say that
page hit is a count for file request to the web server. as a single page may have more than single file (which is very usual nowadays). so a single page view may contain more than one hit ..
Page hit is used when a page has a single file only |

A hit is NOT the same as a page view, or the number of visits to a page and it's certainly nothing to do with a search engine.
A page view is where the page itself is viewed by a visitor - this is the most important statistic to take note of when managing a website.
A hit refers to a 'document hit' - you get a 'hit' whenever a document in your website is loaded. This includes pages, but also any images and external files within those pages.
If a page on your site has two images on it, you'll get 1 page view but 3 hits.
So unlike page views, hits are really meaningless and should be ignored for most purposes.

Depending on the stat software you are using, there may be no difference. Sometimes a hit though is counted for something like every image downloaded ('a hit') so can render ten or more hits for one page view, or something like that.

Bit of an old post, but I thought I would add my 2c's one of my first mentors used to say "Hits is an idiots measure of success" I know that is a little harsh, but Hits generally tend to be big numbers, your site might haev 20 visitors and you could have 2000 hits simply because, as was stated earlier, that all images, content pages loaded etc etc are counted as hits.
For true success measures look at your Visitors,Unique Visitors and Pageviews
