Could you please explain a bit over the point of privacy matters with Google and Yahoo?
Do you have any bad experiences from them, or you just mean they using the usernames and email addresses for their search engines advertising purposes?
I don't think they sell personal info to other third party companies. |

It's not so much that Google and Yahoo are abusing the information they are collecting about users (which is considerable), it's a question of people becoming worried at the amount of personal data that organisations such as this hold on their activities. At the moment they have an excellent picture of what people are searching for, which sites they are visiting and when. Ask.com are just letting people have the choice of whether their data is recorded or not. Barry's article explains it better.

But I don't think people are worried because Google or Yahoo hold some information about them.
If you would think so, so you shouldn't trust any bank by opening any accounts with them, because they hold sensitive private data and the hackers might break into the banks databases and steal the credit card info,......
Quite on the contrary, I believe using some larger organizations secure data keeping services is getting more popular and better day by day.
Example: PayPal and Google Checkout, by joining these two programs, people are not worried as much the time they had to enter their credit cards number on the web for every purchase, and instead, a username and password is enough and email sends the payment. So in this case, one shouldn't say that PayPal and Google have already the info of millions of people. |

Even though Ask is heavily advertising in the UK, I probably haven't used it for a few years now.

Justice - I think they're really going for it in quite a few countries. I tried it again to see what the fuss was about but I couldn't break my Google addiction.
webonlineset - I'm not concerned that Google are going to lose my data, but I am worried at how they are using it to monitor what I do (not that I'm up to anything I shouldn't be ). With Google being the sole arbitors of what you can & can't do on the Internet it's getting a bit 1984. You only need to look at the 'nofollow' debacle to see how much control they can exert over everyone.
