Google has secured a $7.2 million contract to provide Google Apps services to the 30,000 staff of Los Angeles City Council. Google Apps provides e-mail, word processing and spreadsheet services delivered via a cloud computing platform.

I think Google is just trying to spoil Microsoft's dominance on the desktop. E-mail is a place to start. I have various forms of Outlook but stick with webmail these days.
