| Google and Bing Launch Twitter Real Time Feeds |
|
|
Both Google and Microsoft's Bing have announced that they are to take real time feeds from Twitter. This will greatly increase the almost now nature of their search engine results. It is significant that Microsoft's Bing appeared to lead the way on this initiative and that Google was forced to show its hand within hours of the Bing announcement.

With the speeding up of the news cycle it is imperative for the search engines to retain their role in information dissemination. It is clear that in terms of a real time environment for gauging online opinion and activity Twitter has several advantages over Google and other search engines using traditional search gathering techniques - the crawling, indexing and sorting cycle. See: http://uksearch.blogspot.com/2009/10/twitter-versus-google-is-there-battle.html
Google has the superior reach, search algorithm and processing power. However, Twitter and similar social networks have an agility that is unencumbered by having to store and reference billions of pages of documents.

| Google playing catch-up |

Arvind,
I think in the world of the almost now Google will always be playing catch-up with Twitter. If you want the latest opinion on any subject Twitter can point you in the right direction much faster than Google.
Google's roots are academic search - citation. It maybe why it gives older sites, older content and older links more emphasis than more recent material. That approach is fine if you're seeking the empirical and the authoritative but not if you value immediacy over other things.

Twitter was obviously the big story of the recent Web 2.0 conference but it still remains a non-revenue generating business. It seems odd that the Internet world makes such a fuss about it.

Hi Dburodon,
I am agree with you that twitter is able to provide you latest update on the any search.
but my question is that who is able to provide the more authentic information and i think that answer should be google.
the reasons behind this statement area s follows:
1. twitter information is user centric and people are mold them according to their comfort and profits.
2. Google provides information after a series of check ups.
So i think that right information is more important...

It's all marketing hype, trying to keep up with the times yada yada, The likes of Bing is interesting, nice and ultimately ... well thats where it ends I guess. I've looked at numerous client analytics and MSN/bing/Microsoft, call them what you like has never really featured in the traffic. Until they can realistically drive sufficient traffic I don't think all the gimmicks will make much of a difference. The real winner will always be the person/people who can attract visitors and keep them loyal (to a cetain extent)
Don't get me wrong I really hope that Bing starts kicking ass, the moment you hit big companies where it hurts ( wallets) then they might sit up and consider their consumers.
